Frequently Asked Questions

About Cognitive Hypnotherapy

What is Cognitive Hynotherapy?

Hypnotherapy enables you to deal with the things in your life you want to change by working at the unconscious level leading to lasting change. It is not traditional hypnotherapy (or Clinical Hypnotherapy). Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy is a generic term used for hypnosis within therapeutic purposes. These methods tend to be focused on the problem, so all clients with the same issue tend to be treated in the same way.

Instead, as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist, my approach is based on modern neuroscience and positive psychology. It works from a modern understanding of the mind-body connection. I also use techniques from a range of psychological and therapeutic disciplines, including NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Positive Psychology and Time Line Reprocessing. This means that I have a wide range of tools and techniques to draw upon in order to help you achieve your goals.

How does it work?

I approach each person as an individual. Everyone is unique and so is their experience of the problem. I will identify your personal patterns of thought, emotions and behaviour relevant to your issue. A programme will be created specifically to guide you towards the solution that you want.

Why choose Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

You’ll learn tools, techniques and strategies to use for yourself. These positive effects continue to multiply between sessions, and long after the therapy has finished. It is a creative and productive process that can make a difference surprisingly quickly, providing great value for money. Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a solution-focused therapy. Many issues can be resolved in a relatively small number of sessions.

What happens in a session & how many sessions will I need?

After an initial phone consultation, I will arrange a free half hour session to discuss the therapy and for you to decide if you would like to work with me.

The first session will last about 90 minutes and will take the form of an in-depth consultation. This will be an opportunity for me to understand more about what you want to achieve from the therapy and how to tailor your sessions. After that, the sessions will be between 60 and 90 minutes. We will start to address the changes you want to make using a variety of interventions. Most problems can be helped between 3 and 6 sessions.

Will I be given tasks to do in-between sessions?

Most therapy happens between sessions. Therefore,a number of tasks may be undertaken between sessions. These can easily be incorporated into daily life. A short, free download is also available to listen to. I believe this makes a significant difference to the change process.

Will it work?

Most people who are motivated to change will experience differences in their lives really quickly, sometimes after only one session.

What will it feel like when I am in a 'trance'?

Hypnosis is safe and natural. We all go in and out of trance on a daily basis. For example, when you reach your destination but are unable to recall driving there, or find yourself staring into space. You will feel very relaxed, but will be aware of what is going on around you. You will be able to respond clearly and answer questions. In this state, your unconscious mind is more receptive to positive suggestions, but you are completely in control at all times. It feels like a deep relaxation. .

About the Emotional Freedom Technique

What is EFT?

The emotional freedom technique (EFT) is an alternative to the traditional treatment for healing pain and emotional distress. EFT is commonly referred to as tapping or psychological acupressure.

Does one have to believe in EFT for it to work?

EFT works whether you believe in it or not. I have found that once people start getting results this creates a belief in the process anyway and that this can positively impact the therapeutic process

Is EFT safe?

EFT is completely safe and there are no known side effects.

Will EFT work for children?

EFT works wonderfully with children. It is gentle, quick and not too serious. I use a teddy bear , known as a tappy bear to incorporate these powerful energy techniques in to the world of children

Why choose EFT ?

It often works when all else has failed.

It gets to the root of the problem very quickly

EFt can be used as a self help tool in between sessions as it is easy to learn

Why are EFT affirmations stated in the negative?

The purpose of EFT is to eliminate the negative in order to prepare the way for the positive. One of the critical elements in EFTs effectiveness is that one must “ tune in “ to the problem. Otherwise, the energy balancing effect of the tapping for that problem will be of little use. The negative effects of the problem are soon diminished with EFT and then more positive affirmations can be made.

It is safe?

EFT can be done over the telephone which can be very useful in emergency situations such as a panic attack.
